This innovative mobility concept of shared vehicle use began in Europe nearly 20 years ago. Carsharing makes conveniently located vehicles (cars, vans and trucks) available to members on a per-use basis without the expense and hassles of vehicle ownership. Members pay only for their own hours and miles driven - insurance, repairs and gasoline are included in the low rates.

VPSI began its involvement with carsharing in the U.S. in a pilot program conducted in Portland, Oregon by the States' Department of Environmental Quality. Since the pilot program began in 1998 and concluded with the successful launch of CarSharing Portland, VPSI continues to be involved and is providing vehicles to several of the country's largest and most successful carsharing programs.
