Federal Incentives

The Federal government has recently made changes to the Internal Revenue Code, which can benefit employers and employees who participate in vanpooling. These changes, commonly referred to as Commuter Choice, allow employers to offer a tax-free fringe benefit to employees who vanpool to work. The benefit is $230 per month! Local and State Subsidies

In addition to the Federal Governments Commuter Choice initiative, several States and local municipalities provide financial incentives and/or support services to promote vanpooling because it makes so much sense.


Several public agencies, TMA's and TMO's provide services and make funds available to support vanpooling in their jurisdictions. Check below to see if you qualify:

  • Vanpool Rider Rebate Program: New vanpool members, living or working in LA County, receive a one-time $100 rebate after one month of participation, at which time the vanpool group is entered into a monthly drawing for $500. Participants must be employed at companies with 250 or more employees at the worksite.
  • Provides ridematching assistance.
  • Provides marketing materials.

Los Angeles Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA)

  • Club Metro: Provides discount coupon booklets with hundreds of dollars in savings for members at participating merchants. Must be employed at participating companies with fewer than 250 employees at worksites.
  • Rideshare Rewards: Vanpoolers earn up to $120 in gift certificates for the first 3 months of participation. Must be employed at a participating company with fewer than 250 employees at the worksite.
